Mackenzie Boetes takes mundane objects and gives them a new lease on life by adding text and reframing the way we look at them.  Her soft works are often constructed from utilitarian objects taken from her daily life, such as worn out pillow cases and kitchen towels, which she embellishes with potent to semi-innocuous texts pulled from various film sources.  Her work points to the complicated intersections between our hopes and desires, the choices we make and their consequences, and the resistance and/or acceptance of the limits of reality.
